Near the bottom of the ballot this year, Ohioans will see State Issue 3.
Politicians claim Issue 3 will “protect our elections” by requiring photo ID to vote.
But here’s the truth: OHIO ALREADY REQUIRES PHOTO ID TO VOTE. Anyone who has voted in any Ohio election for past several years knows this.
In fact, Ohio already has the most restrictive photo ID law in the country.
Anyone telling you Issue 3 is about protecting our elections is either misinformed or openly lying to you.
Why would we vote on something we already have? We wouldn’t.
Here’s what’s actually happening:
Ohio's current law is so strict and so flawed that it blocks thousands of LEGAL, ELIGIBLE Ohio citizens from voting each year.
There are lots of reasons why citizens don't have a current photo ID. One example: many older folks who no longer drive feel no need to renew their license (and some aren’t even allowed to!).
If Issue 3 passes in November, these current, defective voting laws would be added to our state Constitution.
This would make it MUCH harder for anyone to ever improve or strengthen Ohio's voting laws in the future.
Anyone who wanted to even TWEAK Ohio’s voting law would be forced to go to the ballot to try and pass an updated constitutional amendment.
It's a freaking terrible idea.
Vote HELL NO on Issue 3.
Ohio citizens can vote anytime between now and Election Day (Tuesday, November 3rd).
